FIFA 15 – review

●●●●

Every year since PES fell behind FIFA in the early 2000s, FIFA has been one of the biggest releases every year, without fail. FIFA 14 broke the UK sales record, being the number one selling game for twelve weeks in a row.

Despite record sales figures, the FIFA franchise is still being accused of stagnation, with FIFA 15 seeming to have only made very minor tweaks. The main changes made to FIFA this year are that they have made the game more responsive; players turn and react faster, making the game more skill-based. EA have also improved the goalkeeper’s intelligence, increasing the frequency of amazing saves. Other changes are all aesthetic or minimal in nature.

In previous FIFAs, breaking away into a one on one with the goalkeeper was an almost guaranteed goal. This is not so in FIFA 15. The new, hard to beat, keepers make the game feel more realistic. Making one mistake is no longer a death sentence but, if you’re good, you can still beat the keeper or go around him for an easier goal. This change makes the game feel far more dynamic.

Almost all the modifications make the game a much better experience. The responsiveness makes it so that your ability is more crucial to winning games than having the right players.

EA seem to have a knack for making a group of small, seemingly insignificant changes feel like a totally different game and FIFA 15 is the prime example of that.

Released on PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, and PC. Reviewed on Xbox One.
