Summer Releases: Music to Play During Your Adventures Artists coming soon to a venue near you

There’s a special joy to live music that can turn a favorite album or artist into a treasured memory. Here’s a few highlights of coming attractions for the summer and beyond.

Florence + the Machine

Back with a fourth album, ‘High as Hope’ (June 29), the ethereal Florence Welch is guaranteed to deliver another earth-shaking set of songs this summer. So far, two singles have been released: Sky Full of Song and Hunger. The band has gone through a growing period – three of the original members have left – which is sure to mean some changes to the band’s sound, but never fear – Florence’s distinctive voice and melodies are very much still vivacious. More mature and more personal than anything she has written before, Florence revealed to radio DJ Annie Mac that the process of making this album was less pressured than previous work, making for a more reflective and organic album. After headlining BBC’s Biggest Weekend, the group is set to bring ‘High as Hope’ on the road. They play the 3 Arena on November 19.

Troye Sivan

The sophomore album is always a tricky task, however Troye Sivan’s second LP, ‘Bloom’ is set to end the summer season with a bang. With a release date of 31 August, Sivan has named this as the album that he has always dreamed of producing. His lead single, My! My! My!, certainly sets the tone, as Sivan finally lets go of boyhood fears and truly embraces himself. The Good Side offers itself as an ode to a past lover while Bloom sees him offer everything to his new one. ‘Bloom’ could be the sensual masterpiece that propels this Australian to worldwide fame. Recently releasing a set of tour dates for the US, hopefully he’ll be bringing ‘Bloom’ to Europe later this year or early next year.

Christine and the Queens

Under a new pseudonym – the monosyllabic, androgynous ‘Chris’ – the performer known as Christine and the Queens announced her comeback with a tour that will take her across Europe and the US. With no release date yet for her second full album forthcoming, this LP may  be a summer hit regardless. The first single from this French force of nature, Dites-Moi/Girlfriend (she releases both English and French versions of her work), certainly is remarkable. This G-Funk track shows the evolution from Christine to Chris, a wittier, sweatier, tougher character. This is modern pop which tackles topics like gender and sexuality with a unique, creative twist, and should deliver hard-hitting tunes that are destined for the dance floor. She plays the RDS 30 November.
