Autumn Trends falling like pieces into place, I can picture it after the transitional season 🎶 Red Taylor’s Version on repeat… How do we navigate this much needed cardigan weather this term? Let’s check out the wardrobe survival guide!

“Gonna crack a RIB”-BON around here. PINK. SILK. BOWS. Bow down everyone, silk chiffon / Silk Siobhan, Autumn got it. Sandy Liang esq-ify your wardrobe by sewing on the shape of a bow or tying ribbons onto everything you own. Yes, everything, while you’re at it, Jane Birkinify your bag too; add those rosary beads, free keyring, and kitten mirror. This ballet core/coquette style has been big in the past while, but for autumn, there are a lot more autumn colours in this style. Ballet shoes, flat pumps, white/black lace cardigans and skirts, we’re not seeing the end of it yet.

Speaking of.. any bag? Sorry, the bag I’m referring to is the large, humongous, grande tote bag. So big, that they’re borderline Nike sports bags to an IKEA-sized bag. Physios will adore this generation after everything we sacrifice (our singular shoulder) to carry this shoulder blade-cutting bag for 1km a day (a tiny violin is playing can you hear it?). Anyway, just look at the Cos oversized quilted crossbody bag, there’s your answer.

@ White sneakers, you are now the Weakest Link, Goodbye. Unfortunately, they’ve been exiled for Autumn 23’s existence. To replace this contender is…BRIGHT! COLOURFUL! Bróga. They’re speaking up and saying their piece. In particular, for the Adidas spezial sambas, someone get them a mic and debating, they’d speak for Ireland. Another pair of shoes that are falling into this term are the ones that are totally “ugly” to your parents. Get them, they’re gonna be in for the season hun. Embrace their quoting of “At the end of the day, if it’s what you want I guess”. Also, chunky biker boots, the boots that if Jadons rode a motorcycle, escaped the laces life, and wore chains.

Drop Waist dresses have popped up recently, or you could say, just dropped. More frequently seen in formal attire, this trend will definitely sneak its way onto more skirts and dresses in the near future. It has the low-rise line supremacy of the early 2000s Bella Swan / Nina Dobrev look but at the same time, you’re snatched, a win-win me thinks.

The Stripes… not the band, unfortunately. BIG stripes but in an Alexa Chung / old Brandy Melville / not cringey Tate sweater way… you get me??? Stripes are lining, underlining, and overlining your outfits, clearly makling your plain sweaters be Johnny Cash and say “I walk the line!” Black striped mesh/lace pants and skirts are also full-time workers this season.

ACE THE LACE! Black lace in particular. It’s giving witchy modest but also just underwear and a dress, multifunctional. BEWARE, we’re not styling in a 2012 Gossip Girl peplum top manner, instead, we’re probably cutting out the inserts and styling raw.

If you’ve been wearing accessories correctly, then you’re doing it wrong according to the current vibe of this autumn. Scarves as long ties, ties wrapped as a scarf, ties as belts, peak caps flipped backwards? They really do come back like a 90s trend. Start to reuse your own clothes by wearing them backwards, dresses as skirts, and necklaces in your hairstyles. Wearing the long tie scarves you’ll be Flinstoning the 4th floor. Using what you have is becoming trendy.

“…but what colours will be sold out? Be honest! Warn me! It’s got to be that pure dark woodsy green (but not Woodies DIY green)…”

Alright, Alright, Alright but what colours will be sold out? Be honest! Warn me! It’s got to be that pure dark woodsy green (but not Woodies DIY green) and dark cherry red (but not blood-bright red). Especially in shoes, we’re seeing the popularity of these two colours, e.g. the UGG x OC Tasman red, and perhaps the revival of the dark green Converse from last year. Also, blocks of monochrome black and brown outfits/suits could be the new uniform…

Isn’t it interesting how autumn brings warmth through colours but the weather gets colder? So funny, I’m rolling on the floor. That’s it for now folks, go trip, go slip, go fall!
