The Podcasts You Should be Listening to This Summer

What with the first ever British Podcast Awards taking place last month, there is no doubt that podcasts are becoming a permanent fixture in our lives. And if they’re not on yours, they should be. If you’re a newcomer to this world of storytelling, opinions, rambling chat, jokes, facts and secrets, here are some top suggests I guarantee will not disappoint.

New release:

S-Town

From the people who brought you Serial (if you have not listened to Serial ignore every other suggestion and listen to it straight away), S-Town follows radio producer Brian Reed to a small town in Alabama to investigate a murder. However things take a turn when Reed meets horologist and genius John B. Maclemore.

Informative:

Science Vs.

Did you know the G-spot is actually not a spot at all but a vast network of nerves in the vagina which the science world knows surprisingly little about? Me neither, until I listened to Science Vs. and I’m feeling far more informed on a number of things – G spots, fracking and acne to name a few.

Soothing:

New Yorker Fiction Podcast

Listen here

Nothing makes a commute fly by like a dose of fiction. These short stories, from The New Yorker fiction archives, are not only brilliantly written but selected by established authors and followed by small discussions with the podcast host.

Social:

Risk

Listen here

A myriad of dirty little secrets, stories and catastrophes. Risk is your gossip fix. Hilarious anecdotes told for the first time on stage.

Culture:

The Adam Buxton Podcast

Having found moderate fame with The Adam and Joe show in the late 1990s, Adam Buxton interviews a wealth of celebs including long term best friend Louis Theroux, as well as actors-broadcasters Steve Coogan and Richard Ayoade. Buxton is hilarious and if you don’t trust me then trust the Podcast Champion of 2017 Award, which he received earlier this year.
