Do you want to to work in film? Have at least $26,000 to hand? Nonplussed by working for an often controversial employer? Don’t find an inherent contradiction in the idea of paying to work for nothing? Well, you’ve missed out— this week, one lucky US college student scooped up a 3 month internship at the Weinstein Company at an online auction organized by CharityBuzz. The proceeds from the auction will go to the American Repertory Theatre in Boston.

Actor/director/academic/sexual provocateur James Franco has produced a new documentary focusing on the BDSM site, Kink.com. While Franco’s envelope pushing  has long since become tedious (see his rambling “arty” response to Lindsay Lohan’s sex list), the documentary, directed by Christina Voros, looks like it will treat the controversial subject in a mature and measured way. Looking at this niche industry through the experiences of directors and performers, it should be an interesting counterpoint to the infamous Fifty Shades of Grey.

The IFI has released the program for their upcoming Stranger than Fiction documentary festival (September 25th-29th). The festival will screen a variety of Irish  and international documentaries, many followed by Q&A sessions with the directors. Our picks? This year, it’s all about the homegrown talent. On the political side of things, we’re excited to see Sinead O’Brien’s Blood Fruit, which chronicles how two Dublin women began a nationwide boycott on South African goods in protest of apartheid. Our pop culture obsession, however, is eagerly awaiting Des Doyle’s Showrunners, which promises to provide an insight into the creative types who have made this a Golden Age for TV and feature interviews with big name players such as Joss Whedon.
