This is England reunites for new Irish Drama, The Virtues

Channel 4’s The Virtues; an Irish drama coming soon.

The four greats from This is England; director Shane Meadows, screenwriter Jack Thorne and actors Helen Behan and Stephen Graham, are collaborating once again for The Virtues. The Virtues is Channel-four’s latest four part Irish TV drama about a man named Joseph (Graham) who returns to Ireland after having been failed by the country’s care system. On his quest to finally face his troubled past he meets his sister Anna (Behan) for the first time since they were children with Frank Laverty playing Anna’s husband.

More than just an impressive cast, with award winning director Meadows (This is England, Twenty Four Seven and Dead Man’s Shoes) and BAFTA-winning writer Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and The Last Panthers), The Virtues is promising to be a quality addition to our screens, set to be released on Channel 4 in 2019. Filming has begun and will take place throughout Belfast, Liverpool and Sheffield.

In Shane Meadows own words “The Virtues reunites me with the peerless Stephen Graham, whilst also allowing me the chance to work with a host of supremely gifted actors and some incredible new talent. It takes the biblical, almost apocalyptic levels of revenge witnessed in Dead Man’s Shoes, along with the bittersweet humour from This is England and creates a landscape like nothing else I’ve ever worked on.”
