Coming up Roses: Vogue’s 125th Anniversary

As 2017 enters its sixth month, Vogue magazine continues the celebrations of its 125th anniversary with the announcement of the official Vogue rose. The result of careful cultivation by Vancouver-based rose breeder Brad Jalbert, the sunrise-inspired shades of peach mark the dawn of a new Vogue era. The newcomer follows a long line of famous roses, including those of Christian Dior, Pablo Picasso and Marilyn Monroe. With notes of licorice, vanilla and citrus, a six-inch gift basket of the flourish can be purchased online at Jackson & Perkins from 5th June for $34.95-59.95.

In honour of the commemoration, the fashion powerhouse is also releasing a limited edition ten dress collection in collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld. The Chanel and Fendi creative director is well used to taking the ‘queen of flowers’ as inspiration, having just recently designed a hot pink dress ornamented with two sequined roses for none other than Chanel’s latest muse, Lily-Rose Depp, at this year’s Met Gala. The capsule of soft, summery silhouettes ranges from $148-198, featuring hues of petal pinks and reds, romantic off-the-shoulder necklines, elegant lace and, of course, plenty of floral prints. The range is currently sold exclusively by Lord & Taylor.

Capturing the juxtaposition between the rose’s strong femininity and soft enchanting nature, the everlasting beauty of the capsule is a classic.

To promote the collection’s bloom, a poster featuring an illustration of the stand-out piece, a pastel pink number with pleated hem and sleeves and a rose corsage firmly fascinated to the bottom of its plunging V-neckline, was also designed by Lagerfeld. Capturing the juxtaposition between the rose’s strong femininity and soft enchanting nature, the everlasting beauty of the capsule is a classic. Seemingly taking the words Coco Chanel herself into consideration as she is quoted, “A woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future,” the fragrant collection makes a statement in cementing the position of Vogue as fashion’s leading publication, certainly for another 125 years to come.
